*BEFORE* *AFTER*
This home’s laundry room was a violation of style and organization! So the homeowner, a Local Law Enforcement agent named Brian, brought the room up to code.
When Brian and his wife moved into the house, there were a few eye sores needing a fix. “Every time I walked past the laundry room on my way out to the garage the room caught my eye – and not in a good way,” states Brian. “Plus, being on the first floor, the laundry room door typically stays open. When we had company over it was an embarrassing display of a room.”
The first to go was the wire rack and cheap organizer boxes above the washer and dryer. Brian replaced the space with three ready-made cabinets from a national do-it-yourself chain.
“I searched the clearance area and found the cabinets on sale for 75% off,” grinned Brian. “They were the high quality brand which was being discontinued.”
For an aesthetic look Brian took the cabinet doors off the end cabinets and added baskets on the shelves.
The area under the cabinets was another story…
The layout of the laundry room had the washer and dryer separated. “It was a terrible waste of space,” states Brian. “Plus it was hard to get the clothes easily from the washer to the dryer.”
So Brian repositioned the washer and dryer to be next to each other adding more space for another cabinet and counter space.
For extra convenience, Brian built pull-out drawers for their clothing hamper. “I got the idea from a pull-out drawer in a kitchen with a garbage pail. So I took apart your typical laundry sorter, shaped it into the drawers, used a dremmel tool to shape the metal framing, and a rubber stopper to hold the screws,” explained Brian.
The countertop was replaced with granite and the doors to the lower cabinets were recycled from the end cabinets displayed above.
The final price for this project was $190.00 for all cabinets and baskets with a timeframe of four days. Granite countertop varies in pricing.
