The STARS were Big and Bright at the 15th Annual STAR Awards Banquet

The 15th annual Showcasing Triangle Achievements in Remodeling (STAR) Awards were held on May 8th at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC. WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel presided over 175 attendees as the emcee for the evening.

Presented by the Remodelers Council of the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County, the STAR Awards recognize excellence and professionalism in the remodeling industry. A total of 84 entries were honored representing almost $10 million in remodeling.

Each project submitted was completed in the previous year and is judged on a 600 point scale in the following criteria: workmanship, detailing, quality of materials used, overall appearance, floor plan and design, lighting, special touches, and difficulties overcome. This year’s judges represented the states of Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. 

Homeowners also judged the projects and their scores were 20% of the total. The homeowners judged on the following criteria: overall service and responsiveness, overall appearance, quality of work, special touches, and overall satisfaction.

The Remodeler of Year and Associate of Year were also announced during the STAR awards ceremony. The recipients of these awards were nominated by their peers and winners were selected by the Remodelers Council members of the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County.  Voting was held at a networking night through secret ballot to ensure that every deserving candidate had a fair chance to become the 2008 Associate of the Year and 2008 Remodeler of the Year.

The Remodeler of the Year is presented to a remodeler who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve and represent the Remodelers Council. This year Harold Glazer of Harold Glazer, Inc. was honored for his many years of outstanding service and dedication to the Remodelers Council of the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County and his tireless efforts in 2007.

“Harold Glazer has always been there to lend his leadership as a Past President of the Raleigh-Wake County Home Builders Association,” states Peggy Mackowski, 2008 Remodelers Council Chairperson. “We look forward to Harold becoming the  Remodelers Council Chairperson in 2009.”

Lee Rothstein of Kitchen and Bath Galleries was named Associate of the Year, who presently maintains a high level of commitment. “We would like to thank him for almost a decade of commitment to our council and the industry,” states Rick Parker, STAR Awards Chairperson.

As a special gift, Greg Fishel was presented with a star named in his honor, the “Ofishel Greganator.”
