Showcase’ Home Goes Green, Healthy
Construction is finished on the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2007 Showcase for a Cure home in Hidden Lake. Bost Construction Company, Inc., who also built the home in 2004 and raised more than $300,000 for the Society, built this unique lakeside Tuscan villa. A team of top local designers have decorate the home. The furnishings will be featured in a silent auction open to the public during the Parade of Homes tour.
This year is the first time the Showcase for a Cure home will incorporate green-building techniques. Equipped with a permanent concrete roof, energy-efficient HVAC equipment, and low-emissive windows and doors, the home’s specifications far exceed the National Energy Star® standards. Recycled and renewable resources will be utilized in construction, and the home will even harvest rain for irrigation.
The Society is also partnering with renowned doctor Russell H. Greenfield, M.D., to make sure the home is not only green, but healthy as well. Dr. Greenfield is an assistant clinical professor with the University of North Carolina -Chapel Hill School of Medicine and founding director of Carolinas Integrative Health. He is working with the team to ensure the home is healthy for its future occupants, and he’s involved in everything from the color and lighting selections to the plans for an herb garden.
This home is overflowing with luxurious features, including hickory hardwood floors, state-of-the-art appliances, and a spectacular outdoor living area and pool, to name a few. Click here to view floor plans of the home.
